BUTTERFLY DREAM

‘Butterfly Dream’ by Anne Bennett is an artwork that was specifically created for delicate/historic buildings/churches. Anne’s aim is to enable people to better reflect on their own lives by gazing at the many surrounding butterflies she has hand-made from eco-friendly resin. Their delicate appearance suggests the fragility of a living butterfly and the fragile nature of ecosystems threatened by human interventions. Usually, they are all suspended individually across the centre of a building and stretch across to each side, giving the impression that they are in mid-flight. As people walk underneath they will notice the butterflies gently moving, and Anne hopes people will spend time taking in the luminous beauty of ‘Butterfly Dream’ and enjoying the thoughts that come with it. She intends that, just like people have before, they will consider the meanings butterflies represent. Throughout the centuries people from many different cultures have seen, and still see, butterflies as symbols. They have represented new beginnings (turning points), being in the arms of an angel, rebirth, transformation, mortal life, eternal life, living souls, departed souls, forthcoming better days, a lightness of being and good luck. In the darkness of night, and under UV light, each butterfly glows brightly with a unique and beautiful design. This creates an experience, both dream-like and meaningful, that Anne hopes everyone will enjoy.
